Art for a Purpose: The Constructivist Soul
Why does a language site look like a revolutionary poster? Because we believe learning is a revolutionary act.
Welcome. If you are on this page, you've noticed that RussianCases.com looks different. Our design is rooted in Russian Constructivism.
Born in the early 20th century, Constructivists like Vladimir Tatlin and Alexander Rodchenko rejected "art for art's sake." They believed art belonged in the factory and on the street, serving the people. Their goal was to use art as a tool to build a new society.
The Artist as Engineer
A central tenet was the re-imagining of the artist as an engineer. They didn't compose paintings; they constructed objects using geometric abstraction and functional clarity.
Vladimir Tatlin's "Monument to the Third International," an icon of Constructivist ambition.
